Taylor joined our team at the end of 2019. Taylor spent most of his 20’s and early 30’s pursuing an academic career. He graduated with a Ph.D. in Sociology, with a focus on race, class, and gender inequalities and became a college professor in 2015. However, he soon realized that academia was not his true passion. Making students aware of social problems was not enough, action was needed! In light of this realization, Taylor and his family picked up and moved halfway across the country to Charlotte to pursue a non-profit career. He has found a home at Promising Pages working to build a culture of literacy within the community. In his spare time, Taylor loves hanging out with his two kids and wife, listening to punk rock and skateboarding.
“Revolutionary movements have almost always seen developing a general literacy as one of the most important tasks…an individual’s access, through reading a variety of interpretations of reality, increases that person’s capacity to think for herself, to go against the norms of the culture, and to conceive of alternatives for society-all of which are fundamental to acting politically.” -Charlotte Bunch
