Alliance for Children is focused on equipping young children for success by advocating and investing in efforts that strengthen their health, education, and emotional development; contributing to Union County’s sustained economic vitality in a globally competitive world. They provide vital services to children age 0-5 and their families living in Union County through a framework of support for our community’s children, parents, and caregivers.
Union County Community Action (UCCA)
UCCA’s Head Start and Early Head Start programs provide high-quality Early Childhood Education and developmental services to eligible children and their families.
Kids Interactive Developmental Services (KIDS)
Kids Interactive Developmental Services’ mission is to equip families with essential resources and education to effectively address their children’s developmental and social emotional needs. Their Early Intervention service focuses on creating customized learning environments and activities that promote skill acquisition across cognitive, emotional, motor, communication, social and adaptive areas for children up to 3 years old presenting developmental delays.
Childcare Resources
Child care resources is a private, non-profit child care resource and referral agency that works with families and communities to help ensure that children have access to high-quality, affordable early learning and school-age opportunities and experiences that enable them to succeed in school and in life. They offer offers parents FREE, personalized referrals to licensed child care providers in Mecklenburg, Cabarrus, Union, Rowan, and Stanly counties.
Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library
Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library provides books, free of charge, to children across the country until their 5th birthday. Each child receives one age-appropriate book in the mail each month.
Reach Out and Read
Reach Out and Read gives young children a foundation for success by incorporating books into well-care visits in pediatric offices. and encouraging families to read aloud together. Pediatric doctors, nurse practitioners, and other medical professionals incorporate books into well-care visits and encourage families to read aloud together.
Union County Library
Everyone who lives, works, or studies in Union County is eligible for a free library account, which gives you access to a wide range of resources including books, audiobooks, magazines, and DVDs as well as digital and streaming content available 24/7 through the library’s website as well as library events programs like:
- NC Kids — Access a digital library of e-books, audiobooks, and Read-Alongs for youth ages pre-K through 4th grade.
- NC Kids Level Up — Access a digital library of e-books and audiobooks for youth ages 4th grade through 8th grade.
- Children’s Programming and Storytime —The library offers Storytime Monday-Thursday and other special programming on a weekly basis, which are developed by a professional and dedicated staff for children up to age 11.
- Summer Reading Program — Log your reading activities from June 8 – August 1 and return your completed log to win prizes and be entered for grand prize drawings! Kids, teens, and adults can register at their nearest library location.
