Kay started volunteering at Promising Pages in 2019 and subsequently joined the team on a part time basis in 2020. Kay was born and raised in England, went to university in Birmingham, England, graduating with qualifications in English literature,  linguistics and early childhood education. She spent time in England working in the library system and spent an enjoyable 3 years working on the community library bus. She also taught in England and Northern Ireland state schools before moving to North Carolina in 1999. She then worked for Wake county schools before moving to Charlotte in 2014. After establishing a new home, she worked several volunteer opportunities in Charlotte before discovering Promising Pages.
