In-Person Volunteer Opportunities

Thank you for your interest in volunteering with Promising Pages! We need your help to clean and process donated children’s books to be shared with students living in the Charlotte Area Book Desert.

FALL 2024 VOLUNTEER UPDATES:

We have made several changes to our volunteer scheduling for the fall of 2024 and beyond. Please read through this updated information for different categories of volunteers before proceeding:

Corporate, civic, and college/university groups (in-person, 4-12 volunteers): We have resumed scheduling corporate, civic, and college/university groups to volunteer in our warehouse in person. Please click on the blue “4-12 Volunteers” link below for an online calendar to reserve volunteer shifts up to 90 days in advance. For these in-person group volunteer events:

  • All volunteers must be 18 years or older.
  • Shifts are scheduled for Mondays from 2pm – 4pm. Shifts on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays are scheduled from 10am – 12pm and 2 – 4pm. Each shift has a deadline: 7 calendar days before the shift’s scheduled start time. Available shifts for the next 8-90 calendar days are posted and updated daily.
  • If you have a larger group (13-24 volunteers) that can be split between two shifts on the same day, please contact us at [email protected], and we may be able to make that work.
  • Our warehouse is NOT temperature-controlled, and all volunteers should dress according to the temperature outside. Closed-toed shoes are required.
  • If any member of the group has COVID or Flu-like symptoms leading up to the event, please have them join us at another time.

K-12 students: We no longer offer in-person volunteer events in our warehouse for K-12 school groups. Instead, we encourage K-12 students to get involved by hosting Book Drives, and/or by taking on Volunteer Projects that can be completed at school, home, or other location.

Individual volunteers: Individuals who would like to volunteer on their own may contact us at [email protected].

We will continue to keep this page up to date. In the meantime, please contact us at [email protected] if you have any questions. Thank you!

Volunteer Projects

Groups and individuals can support our work in a variety of ways. The volunteer opportunities below can be done in any location and we’ll provide you with the templates and instructions to get you started.

Virtual Book Drive

Help under-resourced children build diverse libraries by hosting a virtual book drive. Download our Virtual Book Drive Flyer that links to our online book wish lists or direct participants to visit one of our independent book store partners to purchase books locally.

Bookworms & Bookmarks

If you’re feeling crafty, you can build Bookworm Buddies, color our Bilingual Bookmarks, or fold little origami bookmarks. All three projects are fun, portable, and are given to our students to foster a love of reading. Download our templates and instructions here. Bookworm Projects

Host a Book Drive

Collect new and donated children’s books and drop them off at our Operations Center. Use our How To Run A Book Drive guide and our customizable flyers to save time!
